Ullswater
You will take the road out of Ambleside opposite the main car park and set off over the Kirkstone Pass. This is initially steep, then undulating then becoming steep again towards the summit: this is the highest road pass in the Lake District at 454 metres. Shortly before the summit is The Kirkstone Inn where you will no doubt enjoy a coffee at least. It is wild rugged mountain country up here. On to the picturesque hamlet of Hartsop where a short diversion is recommended to Brotherswater - a small lake at the foot of the hill. On again to Patterdale with Helvellyn on your left and into Glenridding with superb views of Ullswater.

After another three miles alongside Ullswater, you will turn left for Dockray. You are now approaching a choice of routes back to Keswick, all options on the C2C. Not far from Dockray, High Row sees the start of the Old Coach Road. The last mile of this is quite rough and you may wish to walk but the views on top are wonderful if there is no mist. The alternative valley route back to Keswick continues from Dockray on the A5091 (not a busy road) and picks up the C2C near Troutbeck - from here, its a lovely ride on country lanes to Mungrisdale then connecting with a cycle path all the way back to your accommodation.
