If you like your food – and are prepared to travel to find the best – why not consider a holiday in Italy for a few days? Italy is one of the last places in the world where they enjoy their food without worrying about whether there is more calories in a lettuce leaf or a sprout.
You can book an apartment or Holiday villas in Italy very inexpensively and hire a car for a week or so – all the better to find the local and out of the way restaurants that cater for local people rather than tourists!
As with everywhere, many of the restaurants in the centre of the tourist destinations serve mediocre food at best – but this is missing the point of being in Italy. If you can, ask a local to recommend a trattoria or pizzeria that he would eat in – and you will see a world of difference in the quality.
Tomatoes, olives, basil and cheeses are used in abundance and everything is fresh. The succulent meats, the tender pasta and the freshest fishes served in sauces which will make your mouth water.
We are often under the false impression that Italians love huge portions – but it is more the case that in the UK we are served huge portions of Italian food! It is something totally different in Italy and far healthier than we have back home.
