With Spain only a two hour flight away, it is right on our doorstep. You can leave your house in the morning and be at one of the Holiday villas in Spain for your glass of pre-dinner sangria. Yes, it is close in that respect, but the wonderful thing about Spain is that in other respects it is a million miles away.
If you book an apartment and spend a couple of weeks away from the tourist traps of the coast you will begin to see what I mean. There are many words that can be used to describe this amazing country but none does it true justice.
Once you are away from the crowds who horde there for the beach and sun, you will find a different world a short drive away. The mountain scenery, the wild-life and the fauna; the white washed villages perched in the hills which look like they have not seen a stranger for decades.
Just a couple of hours away from the main cities, life goes on at a different pace altogether. People are friendly and take the time to talk to you and include you in their activities.
In short, although Spain is so close to us, take the time to get to know it and you will discover a hidden world that the tourists never see.
