Coast and Castles
A two hundred mile route along the coast from Newcastle upon Tyne as far as Berwick on Tweed then turning inland to Innerleithen and over the Moorfield Hills into Edinburgh

This 200 mile ride begins in the Centre of Newcastle and you will soon see the new "Millennium Eye" over the Tyne - the route doesn't take you over it but, why not, since you're there ?

When you reach the Castle & Priory at Tynemouth, you turn north, mainly hugging the coast and passing through several nature reserves on Druridge Bay. Keen nature lovers - keep cameras handy ! And its not long before the castles start so don't put them away too deep into your bag !
The ruined castle at Warkworth is right on the route. Alnwick Castle and Dunstanburgh Castle both require detours but Bamburgh Castle _ seen on the horizon from quite a distance - only requires a turn of the head at the main road junction for a most magnificent view.
At Berwick upon Tweed, you leave the coast behind to turn inland and follow the River Tweed to Kelso and Melrose, fine old towns. Close by is Floors Castle, Huge and imposing in the distance.
Through Galashields and Caddonfoot and at Innerleithen a long gradual climb begins through the Moorfoot Hills to gain a superb view of Edinburgh before the long descent into the City. The Finish is at The Mound, beside the famous Princes Street and under the impressive Castle walls.
