Reivers Route

ith the Sun Inn immediately on your left, go straight over the bridge, turn right and climb through woodland with river on your right to T-junction. Turn right. After 1 mile, turn left onto tarmac lane, marked "public bridleway to Skiddaw House and Threlkeld via Dash Falls".

he gradient steepens after 1 mile. Turn right at cairn of stones, following the bridleway to Skiddaw House. The ascent will require some pushing sections. Just before Skiddaw House, turn left.

he next 1½ miles can be boggy but improves and returns to tarmac for your approach to Mosedale.

t Mosedale, turn left to Hesket Newmarket. The pub – The Old Crown – is charming and has its own brewery – well worth a visit. Going uphill through the village, turn left after the Post Office onto the Reivers Route.

fter 2 miles, turn left to Branthwaite, staying with the Reivers Route and carry on through Fellside and Branthwaite. Shortly after, you have the option of an off-road section of the Cumbria Way, taking you on a short cut to Longlands, meeting back up with the route. To stay with the road, bear right until you meet the main road. Turn left and shortly (¼ mile) turn left again to Longlands

ou begin your descent now with views of Overwater down to your right. At the next junction, turn right back through the wood to Bassenthwaite
