Now following the South Tyne valley with rugged hills on either side, the route brings you up onto Coanwood Common and a gentle descent into Coanwood where you can take a short diversion to the Lambley Railway Viaduct. The route then continues downhill along an old railway path to take you to Haltwhistle. Stock up here on snacks and drinks as there are very limited “services” from here until Bellingham. You leave the riverside at Bardon Mill and beginning to climb again, through Twice Brewed and Once Brewed. You’re now in the Northumberland National Park, and once across Hadrian’s Wall you’re on your way to ride through the remote Wark Forest, for a complete change of scenery. before descending into Bellingham to stay at the Riverdale Hall Hotel. Enjoy a dip in the hotel swimming pool before a superb dinner in the award winning restaurant.
