oday sees the most strenuous climb of the whole ride and for this reason the mileage is considerably shorter. Your destination is Alston, a quaint market town with cobbled streets, the highest in England.

o get here, you may well find that you prefer to walk the more strenuous sections of the climb up Hartside across lovely wild moorland and the road brings you into Alston. You will probably arrive early but the town has plenty to offer for a change from the saddle!
